What is the History of TheDemocrat cocktail?
The Democrat cocktail was created in 2007 by the popular bartender and mixologist Jon Santer while working at “Bourbon and Branch” in San Francisco. He created the Democrat after reading David McCullough’s Truman, a biography about the life of 33rd President Harry S. Truman.
Santer was inspired by Truman’s accounts of his life but particularly touched by the notion of Truman enjoying a glass of bourbon with his wife on their porch in Missouri.

.50 Ounces Honey Syrup
.75 Ounces Lemon Juice
.50 Ounces Peach Liqueur
3-4 Large Mint Leaves
Lemon Wheel for Garnish

Directions
- Using a muddler, lightly bruise the mint leaves at the bottom of a Boston shaker with the honey syrup.
- Add the bourbon, lemon juice, and peach liqueur, and shake with ice cubes for 20 sec.
- Fine strain into a highball or goblet glass over crushed ice and stir well to frost the glass.
- Garnish with a lemon wheel and mint sprig.
